Historical Resources
Finding accurate and reliable historical resources is not always easy. Especially if you do not have weeks to spend researching primary sources. The goal of this page is to help connect interested parents and young historians to accurate historical resources that are based in sound research.
This page is by no means comprehensive and will be added to as my own research grows and I run across new sources. Please enjoy my current list and feel free to send me any resources you may run across on your own!

The Cause of the Civil War
This is a subject that has been debated and written about since the initial shots were fired at Fort Sumter in 1861. What caused the Civil War? What were the motivations for the men who fought and died on both sides?
Chapter Two: The Imperfect Logic of War illustrates the reality of the issues of the day for the large majority of southerners and opens a window into the world they lived in. If you are looking for understanding as to why hundreds of thousands of men went to war, this chapter gives you the South's answer. It is the best assessment I have ever read of why the war happened and what prompted it.
Historic Newspapers
There is a fun quality in searching through old newspapers. It is an excellent way to delve into a time period. Newspapers contain not only the news of the day, but the humor and the needs of the day, as seen through advertising. Take a minute to dive into a particular date, or even just search a broad subject and see what you come up with.
